Your Email List Is a Business Asset. Here’s How to Start Using It
If you’ve been collecting email addresses (or meaning to start) but don’t know what to actually do with them, you’re not alone.
A lot of business owners sit on a goldmine: an email list full of potential clients, customers, or cheerleaders; and never tap into it. Not because they don’t care. But because they’re stuck in a loop of:
“I don’t want to bother people.”
“What if they unsubscribe?”
“What would I even say?”
Let’s clear that fog. Because your email list isn’t just a spreadsheet; it’s one of your most valuable business assets. And it’s time to start using it.

Reframe: You’re Not Bugging People. You’re Serving Them
Your subscribers didn’t end up on your list by accident. They signed up, opted in, or bought from you at some point because they’re interested.
Email isn’t about shouting into inboxes. It’s about staying connected with people who already raised their hand. When you show up with value, you're not bugging them... you're helping them.
So instead of worrying about annoying someone, ask yourself:
“How can I be useful today?”
“But What Do I Even Send?”
You don’t need a huge launch, a new product, or a perfectly written newsletter to press send.
Here are a few ideas to get started:
- A quick story with a tip or takeaway
- A behind-the-scenes peek into your day or process
- A resource you love (book, podcast, article, etc.)
- A client win, question, or frequently asked question
- A recent blog post or social post you want more people to see
Still stuck? Try this:
What would you say if you ran into your ideal client at a coffee shop today?
Send that.
Consistency > Frequency
You don’t need to email every week if that feels overwhelming. Start small. Set a goal that feels doable—once a month, every other week, etc.
The goal is to stay top-of-mind. Not spam inboxes.
Because here’s the thing: even if people don’t open every email, they still see your name. That reminder alone builds familiarity and trust.
Grow a List You Actually Want
Chasing big numbers isn’t the goal. You don’t need 10,000 people on your list. You need the right people.
Focus on attracting leads who are aligned with what you offer:
- Use opt-ins that solve real problems your audience cares about
- Mention your list on social or in person (even in DMs!)
- Ask current subscribers to forward something helpful to a friend
- Add an email sign-up to your website, booking page, or Linktree
Small list. Big impact. It’s a thing.
