What’s Actually Working?

| Flourish Monthly

How to Track Your Marketing Without a Spreadsheet Meltdown

Let’s be real: most small business owners didn’t start their business because they dreamed of spending quality time with Google Analytics.

You just want to know if your marketing is doing something; without needing a degree in data science or 12 tabs open to figure it out.

Good news: You don’t need a fancy dashboard to understand what’s working. You just need to know what to look for and what to ignore.

🚩 First: What Even Counts as “Working”?

Spoiler: it’s not just likes. In fact, some of the best-performing marketing doesn’t rack up double-taps. It gets action.

Here’s what matters more:

  • Reach: Are new people seeing your content?

  • Engagement: Are people commenting, clicking, replying, saving, or sharing?

  • Clicks: Are they moving from your post/email to your website or offer?

  • Replies: Are they hitting reply to ask a question or say “I’m in”?

  • Real-life feedback: Are people telling you they saw your post or email, even if they didn’t click? Sometimes just staying top of mind is the win; and that kind of traction doesn’t always show up in analytics.

Likes are nice; but they don’t pay the bills.

🧠 But Also… How Did It Feel?

Yes, we said it: feelings count here.

Did writing that email or recording that Reel make you feel connected to your audience? Was it fun? Did it reflect your voice and mission?

On the flip side, if something felt forced, confusing, or totally out of alignment; it probably came across that way, too.

Your intuition is a valid form of data.

📅 Create a Monthly Marketing Review Ritual

You don’t need a complicated dashboard or a 40-row spreadsheet. Try this once a month:

  1. Look at your top 3 posts/emails
Which got the most clicks, replies, or saves; not just likes.

  2. Note what you were doing differently
Did you share a story? Use a certain format? Make a clear ask?

  3. Check your goals
Are you seeing more traffic, bookings, replies, or inquiries?

  4. Gut check
Which pieces of content felt good to create…and which ones made you want to fake your own disappearance?

  5. Decide what to do more (or less) of next month

That's it. No graphs. No overwhelm. Just info you can actually use.

👋 Final Thoughts

Tracking your marketing doesn’t have to feel like torture. If you can spend 15 minutes scrolling TikTok, you can spend 15 minutes checking in on your own business strategy.

Remember: It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being aware; so you can do more of what’s working, and less of what isn’t.

And if you don’t want to figure it out alone? That’s where we come in.

Flourish can help you plan, execute, and adjust your marketing strategy so it actually feels like it’s working; because it is.
