Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life, right?
Well, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but there's certainly some truth to it. When you're passionate about your work, it doesn't feel like work. You're excited to get up each morning and start tackling your latest project. You love the challenge, the excitement, and the opportunity to make your own mark on the world.
Chances are, if you’re reading this now, you know that “doing what you love” can come with many other tasks. In fact, 90% of the time you’re not doing the thing you love so you can make money from actually doing the thing. Running a small business is hard work. There are so many things to think about - from marketing and sales, to product development and operations - it can be hard to keep track of it all. So why do it? Wouldn’t it be so much easier if you could actually do what you love? Enter: other small businesses.
If you’re a business owner, you know how much work goes into the non-glamorous side of your company. There are countless strategy sessions, meetings, product development, bookkeeping, taxes (oh, those taxes!) and marketing. Sometimes you even have to manage other people. These are the things that you’re most likely not passionate about. You want to do great things and serve your clients, not make sure you’re logging every mile you drove this week. Sure, the challenge with paying other people when you’re small is the cost. If you could just pay someone else you would, but sometimes money doesn’t allow for that. So start small! Sometimes companies will have services or packages that are for beginners or entrepreneurs specifically so they can help you get started. Reach out to them and see if there’s any way they can work with your budget. Sometimes you can even work out a trade arrangement. Believe me, they’ll find a way to help!
Ultimately, delegating these tasks is going to make you more money. It frees up your time to do other things you love, allowing your business to grow. Not to mention the perks of having an expert doing a task! If taxes aren’t your passion, you’re bound to miss a write off or even file in a way that could get you audited in a few years. Additionally, you just are going to be happier. Even if you only spend 3% of your time on that task, that’s 3% more time that you can spend doing the thing you started your business to do. 3% more happy time.
But where do you find these professionals? Sure, you could go just do a quick Google search, but there’s no guarantee they can actually help you or, honestly, be reliable.
