The Benefits of Working with Professionals

| Flourish Monthly

Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life, right?

Well, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but there’s certainly some truth to it. When you’re passionate about your work, it doesn’t feel like work. You’re excited to get up each morning and start tackling your latest project. You love the challenge, the excitement, and the opportunity to make your own mark on the world.

Even from the past as we’re writing this, we can practically hear you laughing at, “never work a day in your life.” As a small business owner, you know wearing multiple hats comes with the territory. You’re the visionary, the strategist, the creative genius, but you’re also the accountant, the marketer, and the IT specialist too. While this versatility can be empowering, it can also lead to burnout and overwhelm quickly. But wouldn’t it be much easier if most of what you did was actually, “what you love?” This is where your network of small businesses come in to save the day.

Why should I outsource?

First and foremost, outsourcing allows you to focus on what you do best - growing your business. By delegating tasks like bookkeeping, website development, and marketing to trusted professionals, you free up valuable time and mental bandwidth to concentrate on serving your community. It’s a game-changer for productivity and efficiency, giving you the space to thrive and innovate. Basically if it’s a task you’re not passionate about, it’s probably worth outsourcing to a professional. If you don’t like bookkeeping, pay a bookkeeper. If you need a website but don’t want to use a formulaic, “easy-to-use” creator tool, pay a web designer or developer to do it. If you’re having trouble with your marketing, we may know a guy (wink wink).

The benefits of outsourcing extend far beyond time savings. Struggling to design a compelling marketing campaign or work through a complex tax issue? Instead of spending hours researching solutions or tinkering with DIY tools, you can hand the task off to an experienced professional and ensure that it will get done without you needing to think about it. Not only does this save you time and frustration but it also ensures the task is finished with precision and skill. This means it may be completed with higher quality than you could have achieved by yourself. If taxes aren’t your passion, for example, you’re bound to miss a write-off or even file in a way that could get you audited in a few years. Working with professionals saves you a headache or two down the line.

What if I can’t afford it?

Outsourcing also allows you to access a pool of talent and resources without the overhead costs of hiring full-time employees. If you’re finding that cost is still an issue, start small! Sometimes companies will have services or packages that are curated for beginners or entrepreneurs to help them get started. For example, we offer a consultation where we work with our clients to build a full marketing strategy. This leaves the client with a Roadmap and a detailed, scalable plan so they can start marketing their company knowing they’re heading in the right direction. If you need to start small, reach out to your company of choice and see if there’s any way they can work with your budget. Sometimes, you can even work out a payment plan or other creative payment option. Believe us, that small business will find a way to help you!

Ultimately, delegating the tasks you don’t enjoy is going to make you more money. It frees up your time to do other things you love, allowing your business to grow. You’ll probably be happier this way. And did we mention that your clients can tell if you enjoy your work and that they’re more likely to purchase from you if you do? Even if you normally only spend 3% of your time on that dreaded task, that’s 3% more time that you can spend serving your community with your business. 3% more happy time.

Where do I find businesses who can help me?

By now, we’ve probably convinced you to outsource something in your business. But where do you find a professional to outsource to? Sure, you could just do a quick Google search, but there’s no guarantee your results will show companies that can actually help you or, honestly, be reliable. The best way to find someone who can help you with anything is networking. Building your own inner-circle (or getting a referral from someone else’s) ensures that you always have someone you can contact, whether it’s for you, a friend or family member, or another business partner. It just so happens that we have many networking groups all over the Portland area (And beyond) available for you to explore! Our style is relationship-based networking with an education component so we can help strengthen our community while also learning how to be better networkers and business owners ourselves. Check out our website to find a group near you!
